r/worldnews – Man denied German citizenship for refusing to shake woman’s hand

“Isn’t it his choice not to?”

“You can’t force someone to shake your hand”

Citizenship is not a right. It’s a gift. He wasn’t dragged or invited to Germany. He wanted to come to Germany presumably to live in a more peaceful, safer, more developed country with better career and lifestyle opportunities. And when you become citizen you get one of the world’s most powerful passports. Citizenship is not a right, it’s a life changing gift and they should be able to refuse for whatever reason they see fit. Refusing to shake hands with a woman (especially as a doctor) doesn’t seem like the actions of a person who wants to integrate in regular German life which involves shaking hands.
